How to Tidy up the Apartment After Moving In

Published on Monday, 25 June 2012 Usually after entering a new home the picture is always the same: the living space is completely cluttered with furniture and boxes. That's way the first important rule when moving in is to place every heavy item in its place right away, so you won't have to move them again. The best situation is if you have already thrown out, given away or sold the unwanted belongings and if all the boxes are labeled. Then you could place every box in the right room and start unpacking by stages. Also you could leave aside off-season clothing and footwear and start with the essentials. If possible, call someone to help you, friends or neighbors. When opening packages put everything in its place, otherwise the mess will be even bigger. When arranging, first you have to make the furniture accessible where you'll be putting your belongings. Open boxes and take out only objects that have a place, the others put back for later, continue with the next one. If what's left do not fill the box you could put them in one, so that unpacking will be faster and the rest of the boxes will cover less space. It's good if you start with sleeping arrangements, so even if you don't finish in one day, you won't have to sleep on the floor or bare bed. After that, start with the bathroom and kitchen. Personal hygiene items and household cleaning products, too, go first, and into their permanent place. If you have a garage you could use its space, or ask neighbors who could spare some space for some time and drag some boxes in there. If that's not possible you could rent storage rooms, it's the same as a garage and they are quite big and relatively inexpensive. There are such services in most cities and if you can't find one, you could always ask the moving company if it offers storage solutions. Generally, the smaller the piles to unpack, the faster it goes.Be careful and do not lose your keys, while on the move. Also you should consider leaving detergents, gloves and sponges aside to clean your new house before moving in, because once the big furniture items and boxes arrive, it will be more difficult or even impossible. When moving with children, it could turn into fire and flood at the same time. The younger they are, the more problems. A natural question arises: what will make the baby happy while moving and tidying up? The best choice is to leave your child in someone's cares while moving, but if that's not possible find some pastime like watching TV, playing with toys or even drawing. When moving with a child, it's important to have at hand a baby set with towel, diapers, cream-powder, plate and mug, and toys. That's why it would be more convenient to pack these items in a separate backpack and take it with you for faster access. To reduce unnecessary stress you could try some feng shui. When you enter the apartment, first open a window or balcony door to let in a powerful stream of fresh air. Then go to the kitchen and the bathroom for a few minutes, turn on the faucets and let the water run. This is a very effective cleaning action that helps to get rid of stagnant and negative energies from previous tenants. Turn on the lights before starting the clean up. Turn on the radio or stereo with a good melody or a song that you like, thus inviting your new energy into the apartment. Boil the kettle and brew tea, and drink a cup of hot tea first in your new home. In any case this little ritual will help you be calm and enter the home on a positive vibe.
