If you are weeks away from moving, it is the best time to start packing your belongings to make sure everything is smooth on moving day. First, you need to prepare all the materials needed in packing such as boxes, linens and bubble wrap. When you are ready, take these useful tips to help you have an organized and efficient packing: 1. Make an inventory of all your belongings. This will serve as a master list to keep track of all your items, before and after the packing and unpacking. 2. Get more boxes than what you may need. Many people don't realize how much items they own until they actually start packing. 3. Wrap each item individually with newspaper or linen. Make sure to fill the gaps with papers to avoid scratches. Use bright colored tissue for very small items so they won't get lost. 4. Collect padding for your belongings. Towels and linens are effective padding for fragile items such as china ware and glasses. For added protection, place pictures in between sheets and blankets. 5. Make proper arrangements of your items in packing. Put light items on top and heavier items at the bottom. Make sure you remove bulbs before packing lamps. Seal bottles with packing tapes to avoid spills. Do not stack plates and record albums. Instead, arrange them vertically to avoid scratches. 6. Secure boxes with additional strip of packing tape. Packing boxes firmly will keep items from gliding and shifting during the move. 7. Label each box accordingly. Label boxes according to the room it belongs to and write its contents in your master list.
