4 Tips to Survive a Lengthy and Tedious Unpacking

4 Tips to Survive a Lengthy and Tedious Unpacking

Published on Saturday, 07 May 2011

When moving, the unpacking part sometimes seems much longer and more complicated than packing. The boxes scattered all around the house can be overwhelming to look at. It is difficult to know where to start. If you are struggling to organize your stuff in your new home, take a deep breath and follow these useful tips to easy unpacking.
1.     Pack to unpack
The secret to quick and organized unpacking lies in the way you pack your belongings. Be sure to label each box with the room it belongs to as well as its contents. This prevents one of those situations wherein you rummage through boxes searching for something you need.
2.     Unpack room essentials first
This is easier to do when you accurately label your boxes. For the kitchen, open up the boxes with cook ware in it as well the plates and dinner ware box. Pull out the soap, shampoos and towels and place them in the bathroom. Set up the sofa in the living room so you can have a comfy corner when you want to rest for awhile.
3.     Let other family members help
As much as you want to arrange your own home, allowing other members of the family to unpack boxes can save a significant amount of time. If you are up to it, you can designate one member to unpack a certain room. Check on in them once in awhile to see how their doing. Don't forget to thank them for their hard work as well so they can feel good about their task.
4.     Don't pressure yourself
The unpacking process is less likely to be completed in a single day - that's a fact. So don't put too much pressure on yourself. Rest when you have to and reward yourself when you have seen progress in your work. If you take it in a lighter note, unpacking won't seem as long or as difficult as you've expected it to be.
