Who Should Handle the Packing and Transportation of Valuables?
Published on Saturday, 18 July 2009
Who Should Handle the Packing and Transportation of Valuables? No matter how many things you have to transport during your move, it's very likely that you will have valuable items among them. Such items should receive special attention in packing and transportation. Depending on the type of valuables, some valuable items may be safer if you do the packing yourself and you bring them with you when you move. For instance, if you have expensive jewelry you would less likely hand them to movers for transport. On the other hand, if you have breakable heirlooms you have the choice to hire the movers to do the packing for you. If they have ample experience on such things, they would know how to properly pack them so that they incur the least chances of being damaged. With regards to transportation of these items, make sure you inform the removals company about them both verbally and in writing. Make sure that they are insured too to be sure that they are covered in case of damage. In addition to that, don't forget to label the boxes which contain breakables and valuable items. This way all movers would be aware how much care should be given to them. It would not hurt to remind them verbally too while they are handling the said boxes on the moving day. Review the bill of lading before signing it. Check whether the right fees were indicated. Make sure that the total estimated value of your things is right as well. And lastly, check the amount of potential liability the movers have too. Doing so is only protecting your things from damage and protecting yourself should your valuables end up lost or damaged. To make sure you can make a claim later on, make sure you include the items in the inventory you submit to the removals company. Take photos or videos of your things to have an evidence of their condition when you handed them to the movers.
